I downplayed things at school today. Passed out worksheets for kids to do, blah, blah. Just trying to keep the lid on. I put statistics on the board today. Fifty-four percent of my 7th period class is failing. Two classes have no failing grades. And so it goes. I am also fighting some "stupid stuff" in that one of my students is harassing one of my biracial kids. It isn't fun.
Ryan had a soccer game this afternoon, which meant that Meg had to leave work a tad early and I bought supper instead of fixed it. The weather was nice, albeit a little cool. We had a behavior "incident" after the game with Ryan, but things worked out. He did score the last goal of the game. Yay!
Tomorrow, Robin gets to spend the night at school for the Reading Festival. We can't find the paper that tells what she is to bring and when she is to be there. Ugh! Meg will be gone Friday evening, so Ry will most likely have a "sleepover" in Grandma's room. On Saturday afternoon, Robin has a Girl Scout bowling party and Ry has soccer pictures. Sometime thereafter, they will go to Muncie for 24 hours.
I got an email this evening from my "elmer" Cal that a radio friend of ours died suddenly at home this afternoon. He had no confirmation of the news, so I called the fellow's best friend and found out that it's true. This is a tough one for me. Dan Taylor (N9GT) was 54. The men in his family had a history of early-and-sudden death, but I thought Dan was on top of that. I am stunned. My heart hurts. It will be hard to go to school and play junior high "games" tomorrow.
Dan Taylor, N9GT, Silent Key. God Bless dear friend, and rest in peace.
